An implant denture, sometimes known as a fixed denture, is a denture that is secured into place using a few dental implants (For more information on implant please view our implant section.). An implant denture is for a patient who has lost all of their teeth, and is in need of a full mouth denture. With the use of as few as two implants we can create a denture that will stay in place and not move around like a removable denture.
It may take some adjusting to get used to this denture, but you will have up to almost 100% of your chewing efficiency as you did with your natural teeth. This option is best for patients who don’t want to have to take a denture in out of their mouths and do not want the need for any denture pastes. These will be treated just as your natural teeth would be.
If you are interested in this procedure, let us know and we will set up a consultation. If you and the doctor are set on a fixed/implant denture, the process will begin. The process for an implant denture is a bit longer than the process for a removable denture. Impressions will be taken and models be poured in our office. You will then be referred out to a Oral Surgeon or Periodontist to get the implants placed into the jawbone. The implants will then need time to heal.
Once the healing process is complete, the creation and fittings of the denture will begin. Once again, the fit is very important. In order for the denture to function properly, it needs to have a perfect fit. Once you and the doctor are completely satisfied with the fit and comfort, you will have a new mouth ready to function.
