Dental Exam- Check Up & Cleaning (Prophylaxis)

In order to maintain a great smile and healthy teeth, it is very important to remove plaque and tarter on a regular basis. 


During your exam/cleaning in our office we will check your teeth for cavities, review oral hygiene instructions, and monitor your periodontal (gum) condition, as well as thoroughly clean your teeth. Fluoride treatments are provided for children as well.  Sticking with normal in office cleaning and check ups will reduce the risk of decay, cavities, tartar and gum disease.  You should be seen in our office for a normal check up and cleaning every 6 months, unless otherwise directed by the dentist.

In our office we now have Digital X-Rays that provide us with instant digital images of your teeth.  This now allows us to review the X-Rays a lot quicker and diagnose any problems, if any.  One other upside of using the digital x-rays in our office is that the radiation released is even less minimal than it was before.


A regular teeth cleaning (Prophylaxis) by a dental hygienist (or dentist) is highly recommended to remove plaque and tartar that may develop.  At home, some of these areas may be very difficult for a patient to properly take care of on their own. In our office cleanings include tooth scaling and tooth polishing.  If too much tartar has accumulated, additional techniques for debridement are used.  This involves the use of various instruments or devices to loosen and remove deposits from the teeth.  X-rays, usually bitewings, are taken once a year on patients as well.
