Laser Treatment

In our office, we now offer laser dentistry!  We have a soft tissue diode laser that reduces treatment time as well as improving the comfort of our patients during their procedures. 

 

Soft tissue diode lasers work by emitting a light that is delivered as quick pulses of energy on to the treated area.  There are various wavelengths of light that can be used depending on the type of tissue being treated.  Lasers can be more accurate than traditional dental treatments and can be applied during many dental procedures.  Some of these procedures include crowns, gingival contouring, implant recovery, dental surgery and even deep cleanings.  Using a soft tissue diode laser will decrease the amount of bacteria hidden in the mouth.  The soft diode laser can also help in minimizing or eliminate bleeding that can occasionally occur from some dental treatment methods.

Our soft tissue diode laser provides patients with increased comfort during procedures.  In some cases, a topical anesthetic gel is all that may be needed before laser treatment.  This helps minimize treatment time even more!

In our office, the soft tissue diode laser has been a great way to help some of our patients by getting their periodontal/gum issues back on track.  For some, it has greatly reduced the need for periodontal surgery.
Laser Bacterial Reduction (LBR)
Laser Bacterial Reduction or LBR is one of the procedures we can use our laser for. LBR is a laser decontamination process that is painless and normally takes less than 10 minutes.  We highly recommend that you take advantage of this service as a part of your routine cleaning.

There are major benefits that have taken place with LBR, they are:
- LBR in conjunction with your regular cleaning it greatly reduces the harmful bacteria that cause gingivits and periodontal disease.
- It reduces and eliminates bacteremias.  During the normal cleaning process most patients will have some areas that will bleed.  This allows bacteria that are present in all of our mouths to enter into our bloodstream.  Latest research shows that these bacteria have now been linked to cardiovascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes.  Anything that we can do to reduce or eliminate these bacteremias is a positive for our patients.
- To prevent cross contamination of infections in one area of your mouth to other areas.  Decontamination minimizes the chances of this occurring.
- To give your gum tissue a longer healing period without the presence of these bacteria.
Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy (LAPT)
LAPT involves the use of our soft tissue laser to treat infections around the teeth. This is a procedure to help  get rid of gum disease such as gingivitis, along with excellent home care and can help improve your stage of periodontal disease.  The laser will emit short pulses of energy of specific wave lengths to remove infected tissue and to kill the bacteria causing the infection.  For more in depth information on this procedure, please view our Perio Treatment Service section.
